Vinyl Siding Material Prices in NJ

We emphasize in vinyl. Simply, it’s the #1 asked product. Whether, it’s Prodigy’s foam insulated back walls or vinyl cedar shake siding, everyone wants the scoop on vinyl.

Just drive through Paramus, Clifton or Lyndhurst and you can easily see vinyl siding styles is king.

The prices for siding material is basically the same from all distributors

Manufacturers

From my experience many vinyl siding manufacturers develop good products. If they’re properly installed, a quality engineered system can withstand Mother Nature’s Wrath as it tramples upon New Jersey.

If you are looking for a particular style or brand it could cost more. What I’m saying is don’t sweat the small stuff, just stick for your budget and your vinyl veneer will be fine. However, you must have the right installers or you may have a severe problem.

Can you tell which siding below cost more?

Can you tell the difference

This siding cost more

Vinyl siding materials prices are in the same ball park figure. They can’t price themselves out of the market.

For many residing projects, I tore off panels which were over 20 years old they were good as new. Even the interior insulation walls were dry and solid.

Consider this when looking for a siding brand. If you want a strong and resilient panel, you don’t have to pay for the most expensive siding. Besides, different brands are made by the same manufacturers and they’re not going to produce extremely inferior products.

What if my siding is blown off years later?

This is one ugly wall we didn’t install

Tearing off old siding is not always necessary

Tearing off all the old veneer doesn’t guarantee a professional installation

Vinyl siding Costs

Wolverine Technologies and Alcoa vinyl siding have been around many years. Should one day you need to repair vinyl siding, you’ll need the same style. They’re not going anywhere, so you can always find it.

However, if a company is not in good standing and goes out of business you will not be able to get the same piece.

Do a little research on the internet to check out the company history. If their cost is not available on the internet, just call a couple of supply houses. They’ll gladly answer any questions about their maintenance free systems

Always save a couple of extra siding panels, just in case. Wrap it and store it behind the garage or underneath the porch so they don’t get damaged.

You can also slip the siding through the basement window

Don’t like talking on the phone, just stroll to one of those big box retailers. Go to their siding aisle to compare prices. You’ll have an idea of their costs but remember, they only stock a few items.

I’ve met individuals who like to go directly to the siding supply house and look at the materials and shop prices, although they use the internet, they like to see and touch the product for themselves.

We can get you the vinyl material pricing. We’re here to help and work out any arrangements

Vinyl Siding Material Pricing

The standard panels are 12’6 long. Special orders are different and so are the accessoriers,

certainteed dutchlap

This is standard siding for an investment property

like twenty feet long traditional or fluted corner posts.

There is also seamless siding which are 16 and 25 feet panels.

The cost for vinyl siding goes up for these longer ones but worth it if you want to reduce the seams.

Seamless vinyl siding is the most expensive, however, for the price they charge, it is not worth it, in my opinion.

You can get the best deal and save thousands as an educated consumer.

7 Pitfalls of Bergen County Siding Contractors

So many siding contractors in North Jersey, how do you pick a good and affordable one.  Hopefully these can help with your decision to choose wisely.james hardie board fiber cement siding contractors in bergen county nj

7 PITFALLS to avoid when hiring a local North Jersey Siding Contractor

1. not getting everything in writing.  regardless what you and the contractor talk about make sure you get it in writing.   Perhaps, you think the gutters are included but they’re not.   I seen several battles over the cost of the gutter system.

There was a homeowner who wouldn’t give the contractor his final payment unless a whole gutter system was installed.   This was around Wayne area.   The contractor  and  his men walked into the persons store with their hammers and tool pouches and closed the door behind them.

They gave him two options, either you pay my money or I’m going to rip off the whole siding from the side of your house.

2.  If the contractor has an unfavorable reputation around town.   Have you ever asked a neighbor what they think about John Smith Siding.   If they heard of him and tell you some negative stories than the red flags should go up.

If they tell you, he’s always spotted in the local bar, you should put this in perspective, also.  I knew contractors who were infamous in Passaic and Bergen county bars and with the local police.   I know, I visited and contacted them at the Passaic County Jail several times.how to remove vinyl siding from your house nj

3.  The equipment he has is obviously shoddy and inadequate for work.   If you notice all his scaffolding or poles are made of 2×4 wood.   Todays siding scaffolding system are made of aluminum poles.

These are essential for siding installation.  Also, look at his ladders, other equipment and truck.  Does it look like a total mess.

4.  Their estimate is 20 or  30% less than all the others.   Understand why theirs is less.  Don’t just think they’re giving you a good price because they like you.   We don’t know what the reasons.  They may be good but you must ask and not just get excited when you hear a low number.

Do your investigation and make sure everything is specifically written on the contract.

5.  BBB complaints.   If there are several on his profile than you may not want to do  business.    However, ask, we don’t know if they are valid or not.   Perhaps, they were taken care of.   We don’t know unless you ask and investigate a little.

Also,  the BBB is not the end all for company reviews.  there are many good contractors not part of the bbb and many bad contractors are not mentioned either.   Get whatever information is available and take it with a grain of salt.

6.  If they give you a doomsday scenerio.   If they try to play on your fears and telling you the house is about to fall apart next week.     Your siding may be in  bad condition but it is obvious if it’s going to fall apart next week.

However, just in case it might fall apart next week, call another siding specialist ASAP.   Better safe than sorry and if they both have the same report than consider having it done quick.2012-11-10 02.20.15

7.  Last but not least,  trust your gut feelings.  Even if they pass the list with flying colors, it’s your ultimate decision if you’re going to hire them.

If you feel suspicious of something and even if you’re not sure why, perhaps you should move on.   We have great siding contractors in New Jersey but if your spider senses are tingling, listen to it.

Crane & Prodigy Foam Backed Vinyl Siding Contractors in NJ

Crane foam backed vinyl siding contractor in NJ and Prodigy full back insulated specialist shares his experience. and reviews these insulation panels.  Some say they are the best rated siding but we beg to differ.

“Here is a little secret about insulated siding panels they don’t want you to know”

Crane Foam Backed Vinyl Siding Contractors in New Jersey

It’s not a good insulator

There are 2 types of insulated siding. One has the insulation glued to the back of the siding board and the other has the insulation slipped behind when siding is installed.

It accomplishes the goal of keeping the siding firm and strong but it doesn’t insulate the house better than dow board insulation.

ripping or tearing off old siding from house by nj contractors

Save money, it is not always necessary to tear off the old facade to install insulated siding

Why foam backed vinyl siding can’t insulate your home

  • House siding types are different and they can’t fit in every angle
  • Cutting vinyl siding tears off the insulation
  • To install you must tear off the insulation with your hands to fit on wall
  • The perimeter around windows, the doors and house are exposed for air drafts.

Basic siding insulation boards cover all areas of your house

A house has many angles which Prodigy vinyl siding or Craneboard insulated siding can’t be completely placed in.

We were introduced by this product by a large siding sales company we worked with.

The company was excited with the new vinyl siding material prices. Installing siding years ago, I didn’t think much about it.

We figured a multimillion dollar reputable company knew what they are talking about.

Our Experience installing insulated siding panels

To install this siding it must be cut with a circular saw because each piece is thick. The conventional way of cutting it with aluminum siding shears will not work, unless you tear off some of the insulation in the back with your hands.

Prodigy Insulated Siding Panels – New Jersey Contractors

The shape of the house doesn’t make it possible insulate the entire house. I remember applying vinyl siding on some one’s home and thinking it wasn’t insulating well.

front door way entry installation contractors in essex county nj

A beautiful front door entry is a must

If your house is a box than it could insulate it better because we just place the siding in straight rows and don’t have to cut a lot.

However, if your house is an old Victorian with many angles than there will be many areas the insulation will not stay.

Even if you have a boxed house it still won’t insulate properly.

The insulation can’t properly fit behind windows and doors

Sometimes the windows and doors have irregular carpentry around its perimeter and makes it extremely difficult for this vinyl siding style to fit properly.

You have to tear off the glued insulation from the ends of the panels so siding can flex and be placed properly.

Around the windows and doors there can be open gaps of 2 inches where there is no insulation and it makes it easy for cold air to penetrate. Imagine all the windows and doors in your house having 2 inch gaps. That’s a lot of drafts.

crane vinyl siding

The foam insulation doesn’t always press tight against the window

vinyl siding installation

The factory end of each panel has 1 inch of insulation removed

Even if you don’t have irregular carpentry around them, each end of Crane or Prodigy foam backed vinyl siding has 1 inch of insulation cut back. The reason for this is to interlock 2 pieces of siding together. However, you don’t need to interlock by the windows.

See how it does not properly insulate your house. Also, there are other areas, like the porch, electrical fixtures and corners of the house. This makes one question is Crane siding good.

Prodigy Insulated Siding

You want the solid wall look and believe it will insulate your home properly and are willing to pay top dollars. Many homeowners in the Garden State believe it is the best consumer report vinyl siding but is it really? Does the Prodigy insulated siding reviews hold strong?

Prodigy insulated vinyl siding by Alside is not the most affordable vinyl siding. It is a good product but has a major flaw. However, we realized there is a way to get Prodigy next generation insulated siding and how to get your house properly insulated. Below is the installation manual and simple installation instructions.

Solution for foam backed siding
Apply one layer of fan fold insulation board and foam backed secondary. The insulation boards will cover any areas Prodigy foam backed vinyl siding can’t reach to keep house properly insulated.

The entire house has standard insulation panels installed first

The cost of vinyl siding insulation is around $400 more and worth it if your heart is set on foam backed vinyl siding.

We installed it in a gutted house and it was warm in the middle of winter.

However, you must make sure siding is properly installed and house is well sealed.

Only a good siding contractor who cares about his work can deliver this project.

Anything less and you’ll be throwing your money away.

Common Installation Mistakes by NJ Bergen County Roofing Contractors

Here are some commons mistakes by New Jersey roofing contractors.

We ask that you take notice and ask these questions when you are meeting a roofing contractor for an estimate

GAF Roofing in Bergen County NJ

1. Not using enough nails for installation
Manufacturers give specific instructions on how to fasten shingles, but too often they’re improperly nailed.  When nail guns are used and the pressure is set too high, nails will be overdriven into the shingle mat.

essex county roofing contractor

This increases the likelihood that they will blow off and leak, and voids the warranty. Similar problems result from underdriven nails.

In general, 4 nail per shingle meets the manufacturer’s specifications unless the roofing installation is in a “high wind area” or the slope of the roof is very steep–18:12, or greater. In these two cases, 6 nails per shingle is required.

I recommend 6 nails per shingles for any laminated shingle job. The reason being because if the roofer misses the nail line–which is extremely small–the nail won’t penetrate both halves of the shingle.

This, over time, with the effect of gravity, can cause the shingle to delaminate. The steeper the roof, the greater the potential problem.

Timberline architectural roofing in Bergen County NJ

It only costs a few dollars more to install 6 nails per shingle and it is cheap insurance against delamination and blow-offs.
2. Neglecting the flashing

Your roofer should not cut corners by reusing old flashing on a new roof installation. There may be small punctures or other damage that could threaten the new roof. Insist on new flashing when your roof is installed.always make sure it is noted on the contract that NEW STEP FLASHING WILL BE INSTALLED.
I’ve got a brick chimney, does it reall y need reflashing?
Some roofing contractors will not reflash the chimney unless it is specified in the contract. It is time consuming work and takes a high degree of skill to flash a chimney properly.
A favorite line to get out of reflashing the chimney is, “Why fix something’ that ain’t broke?”
The truth is that if the chimney is not reflashed when the roof is installed, the chances of the chimney leaking in the next 3-5 years are very high!
If you’re going to make the investment of getting a new roof system installed on your home, ensure that the system will keep you dry for years down the road. Make sure that the contractor is specifying that the chimney will definitely be reflashed!

North New Jersey Basement Waterproofing During a Power Outage

Flooding caused by hurricanes have created many new unforeseen flood zones all throughout New Jersey.  Along with these storms comes the risk of loosing electrical power due to power outages.  These outages can range from a few hours, to a few days depending on the severity of the storm. But what effect do these outages have on our home?

The effects of flooding and power outage in your basement.

flooded basment nj sandy storm waterproofing

Well, if your basement is equipped with a professional basement waterproofing system, this could mean an extended period of time without an operational sump pump. If there’s no working electrical source in the home, the pump has no juice to run off of. We can address this by employing a battery operated backup sump pump.

Backup sump pumps are designed to run off of battery power, completely independent of a primary electrical source (when necessary). When power to the home is interrupted, the main pump stops operating, allowing the water level in the sump basin to rise. The secondary pump switch is positioned above the primary pump switch, which then kicks in and takes over the responsibility of pumping the water out of the home.

But That’s Not All

Because the backup pump is equipped with its own, independent pump switch, it can help out in a variety of circumstances. For example, we all know primary sump pumps don’t last forever. Traditionally, when your pump fails, you only find out after the fact. With a backup system, you are alerted when your primary pump fails, allowing you time to replace it without losing any pumping power.

Furthermore, if for any reason your main pump simply cannot keep up with the amount of water flowing into the sump basin, the backup pump will kick in to help out, providing much needed additional pumping power.

Backup pumps have proven time and time again to be a worthwhile investment, especially for those who have already invested so much into creating a dry, healthy, livable space in their basement or crawl space. Contact New America Construction today 201-243-3478, and we’ll be happy to assist you with any questions.
